Mahama Set to Inaugurate €10.2 Million Northshore Apparel Factory in Savelugu

ACCRA — President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to officially inaugurate Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited, a €10.2 million manufacturing facility located in the Savelugu Municipality of the Northern Region, on Friday, August 21, 2026.

The newly constructed industrial plant represents a major investment aimed at bolstering domestic textile production and expanding regional employment opportunities in northern Ghana. Local economic development officials noted that the facility will house modern garment-manufacturing equipment and processing lines designed to serve both domestic retail markets and export channels. Construction and outfitting of the complex concluded earlier this month, following coordination between municipal planners, private investors, and national infrastructure agencies.

Industrial Expansion and Regional Employment

The establishment of Northshore Apparel forms part of broader government initiatives to revive the country's textile and garment sector through strategic industrial partnerships. Regional trade specialists emphasize that the factory is projected to create hundreds of direct jobs for local artisans, machine operators, and administrative personnel, alongside indirect opportunities for raw material suppliers and logistics providers.

Municipal authorities in Savelugu finalized security and traffic management protocols on Thursday, August 20, to accommodate the expected gathering of government ministers, traditional rulers, and business executives attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Economic Strategy and Future Operations

National trade promotion bodies have highlighted textile manufacturing as a critical pillar for reducing import dependency and increasing value-added exports under regional trade frameworks. Plant administrators plan to initiate commercial production runs immediately following the official opening.

Factory management teams will begin onboarding the first cohort of trained operational staff on August 24, 2026.

Why was the Northshore Apparel factory established in the Savelugu Municipality?

The Northshore Apparel facility was built in the Savelugu Municipality to expand industrial manufacturing capacity in northern Ghana, generate employment opportunities for local workers, and boost domestic textile and garment production for regional and international export markets.

The factory inauguration is scheduled for August 21, 2026.

Operational staffing and production shifts are slated to commence on August 24, 2026.
